Longer-term research associate positions

Open positions at the Australian National University (ANU) for two Research Associates (Postdocs) and 3 PhD students.  The grant is for capacity building and the Postdoc positions are for outstanding applicants who are on track towards an independent career in academia.

Funding: 5-year grant by the Australian Research Council.

Duration (Postdoc positions): 2 years initially, extension possible.

Duration (PhD positions): 3.5 years.

Start: 2018.

Location: The positions are associated with the NMR group of Prof. Gottfried Otting at the Research School of Chemistry at the ANU.

Project: To develop methods for determining the conformational space of proteins in solution by the use of pseudocontact shifts that are generated by paramagnetic lanthanide tags. Targets include inter-domain motions, conformational heterogeneity of amino acid side-chains, and conformational changes associated with enzyme function and formation of protein-ligand complexes.

NMR equipment: 800, 700, 600 MHz with cryoprobes (liquids) and probes for 1H-detected ultrafast MAS (solids).

Expected expertise (Postdoc): PhD or previous postdoctoral training in protein NMR spectroscopy and/or protein structural biology.

Expected expertise (PhD positions): a solid background in chemistry, biochemistry or physics.
